Last chance for Power aspirants

KEV Broome Stadium is the last chance hotel for many of the Port City Power men's squad aspirants as coach Dean Page hosts his last open trial today.

Last week's first trial gave Page an idea of what to expect and he said there would be a stronger turnout today.

'There were a couple of guys who had explained absences last week, but they will definitely be attending the second trial,' Page said.

A number of mature players are expected to trial today, with the majority of last weekend's trialists under the age of 18.

As was the case last week, Page invites any players interested in trying to make the Power line-up to attend.

Today's trial starts from 2pm at the Kev Broome Stadium on Side Street.

In NBL news, popular Cairns Taipans big man Melvin Thomas plays his 400th match tomorrow against the New Zealand Breakers.

The 36-year-old American has played for Wollongong, Sydney, Canberra and Cairns during an illustrious career which started back in 1992.
