Largest group heards for Gold Coast Marathon

GLADSTONE will send its largest contingent of competitors for at least 10 years to Sunday's Gold Coast Marathon.

At least 14 seniors and a handful of junior competitors will line up over varying distances at the Gold Coast, with nine to start in the marathon event.

Among them will be three marathon debutants, Kent Spencer, John Staley and Prue Oswin, who have all trained the house down in preparation for the event.

Also gearing up are experienced marathon competitors Gary Zupan, Mike Mason, Ray Hobbs, Mike Phillips, Leanne Stevens and Peter Couperthwaite.

Participants can contest 42km (marathon), 21km (half marathon) or 10km distances.

Zupan said it was the city's largest contingent since the sport enjoyed a boom during the 1980s.
