Karlee steps up to C grade

GLADSTONE Hack and Pony Club rider Karlee McKay will hope a step-up in grade will draw a corresponding lift in performance at this week's Pony Club Association of Queensland state titles in Ingham.

McKay is one of seven riders representing Zone 9 at the titles including Calliope Hack and Pony Club members Chloe Hughes, Kevin Upton and Sarah Upton.

All will compete in team competition as well as battle for individual honours at the titles, which start today with two days of equitation followed by showjumping competition on Thursday and Friday.

McKay, 17, won bronze in D grade competition with her mount Marlua's Wizard, also known affectionately as Bart but will make the step up to C grade in Ingham.

McKay is confident of performing strongly in Ingham, having qualified for the event with a series of consistent displays throughout the season.

The team competition will be decided by taking the best four scores from each zone at the end of each day's competition with the zone boasting the highest total at the end of the week winning the title.
