GLADSTONE resident and Ford fanatic Justin Shipley won't forget last Saturday in a hurry, finally meeting his hero, V8 Supercar champion Craig Lowndes.

Lowndes was a popular figure at the Autobarn official opening and Shipley was among the throng of V8 Supercar fans to get autographs and pose for photos with the three-time Supercar champion.

Mr Shipley was rapt to catch up with the Ford champion, having missed his chance of meeting Lowndes in Brisbane last month.

'I wanted to go and see Craig when he was in Brisbane, but we got stuck in traffic and just missed out ? so it was great to meet him today,' Shipley said.

Mr Shipley is a big fan of the V8 Supercar series and lists Lowndes and current champion Marcos Ambrose as his two favourite drivers.

Mr Lowndes enjoyed his short stay in the Harbour City and was impressed with the number of fans who turned up to meet him.

'It's great to see the people come out here today, the series is going well and it is nice to be in Gladstone where the popularity of V8 supercars is very strong,' Lowndes said.
