Huge haul a basketball winner



A MASSIVE 47-point haul from Michael Byrnes was the feature of another exciting round of Gladstone Junior Basketball action last Friday night.

Byrnes' performance helped his team, the Rookies to a convincing 104-27 win over the Open Girls in their open division match.

Reagan Prizeman's 30 points was the difference as Rockets scored an absorbing 54-48 under-16 boys win over the Heat. Nathan Druit scored 21 for the vanquished Heat, while Mud Dogs' came out on top with a hard-fought 37-26 victory against the Bucks.

A game-high 24 points from Bianca Blades was unable to earn her Spongebobers a victory as they went down to the Oompa Loompas in the under-16 girls clash 46-38.

Drac's Devils won the other under-16 girls clash, with Megan Pirie scoring 18 points in the 3821 win.

Young gun Tayla Pegg was at her accurate best helping Raptors to a 28-18 victory over Deadly Devils in the under-12 competition.

But the best match of the under-12 round was between Hornets and Green Frogs which went down to the last second before Hornets emerged 27-26 winners.

In the round's last match, Hobos defeated Wizards 22-6. Jodi Gibson and Hayley Barnett scored 16 points each to earn their teams, the Beach Bums and Monte Carla's victories in the two under-14 girls matches.

Meanwhile, Devils Blue's good form continued with a crushing 62-12 under-14 boys win over Lions, while Crushers defeated Cavaliers 51-33 in the round's other match.
