Hospital omitted from review

DESPITE claims of bullying and intimidation at Gladstone Hospital, the health district is not to be formally included in a review of the Queensland Health system.

The review is being conducted by consultant Peter Forster whose team is visiting 18 of the 38 health districts throughout the state, holding forums.

A spokesman for Mr Forster said there was not enough time to visit every health district in the state.

The spokesman said the review had to be completed by September 30 and the health districts chosen represented a good cross-section across Queensland.

But the decision has been slammed by Member for Gladstone Liz Cunningham.

Mrs Cunningham last week claimed staff were taking leave and resigning at Gladstone Hospital to escape a "culture of intimidation and bullying''.

She said if Queensland Health wanted to get to the bottom of problems in the system it was essential the review visited regions such as Gladstone.

"If they've got four months and it's not long enough then they should go back and ask for longer,'' Mrs Cunningham said.

"There's no point doing it halfheartedly.''

Mrs Cunningham said while Gladstone residents could make written submissions to the inquiry, people deserved the chance to have their say in person.

A health forum will be held in Rockhampton at the Leagues Club on Thursday, June 30 at 7pm.
