Harth follows his footballing dream

FORMER Gladstone Brothers player Damon Harth proved how far he had come with a brief but impressive outing for the Keebra Park State High under-17 rugby league side in Gladstone last Saturday.

Playing at centre, Harth scored two tries in quick time for Keebra Park in their 16-0 win over Rockhampton's under-17s before being whisked off the field, having already confirmed his standing as one of the key players in the squad.

Harth, who departed for Keebra Park last year, is aiming for a spot in next year's Balmain or Wests Jersey Flegg outfits and, so far, everything appears to be on track for the hard-working three-quarter.

"I've matured a lot more since I made the move and have had to look after myself,'' Harth said last weekend.

"I've improved a lot as a player and learnt a lot more skills.''

Looking strong and fit, Harth said the jump from Gladstone rugby league to the renowned stronghold of Keebra Park High had been significant in the training department, the students hitting the paddock five days per week.

"It's a lot different to training twice a week here (in Gladstone),'' Harth said. "It's a real good stepping stone from Keebra down to the Tigers.''

Harth is also excelling academically at the school which he said valued academic achievement even more than success on the field.

The 17-year-old was confident his move would continue to boost his career and urged other talented youngsters in the Gladstone region to make a similar move if given the opportunity.

"It shows you can do it from Gladstone ? don't be afraid to leave to follow your dreams because it does pay off if you've got the dedication and determination to succeed,'' Harth said.
