GRUFs shooting for top of ladder

TOP SPOT on the Rockhampton and District Rugby Union Sub-districts ladder goes on the line when the Gladstone GRUFs play Cap Coast at Rugby Park today.

The GRUFs have been the big improvers so far this season on the back of their strong forward pack led by Solomon Islands international Charles Tema and ever-consistent second-rower Vance Krahenbring.

They are coming off a crushing 40-12 home win over Blackwater in their last match and have shown a willingness to pass the ball in through their backline this season.

Coach Jon Dalton has been pleased with his team's start to the season and is looking for them to chalk up win number three today.

'Even though we have had the last two weeks off, our preparation has been good for this clash and we know we need to play well to beat Cap Coast,' Dalton said.

One drawback for Dalton is the absence of suave French fly-half Christophe Mouille who has been another of the GRUFs stars in this 2005 season.

Even so, Dalton is confident either Damien Redshaw or Chris Peters can cover the flashy Frenchman for this clash.

'It would be nice to have Chris there, but I think we have a couple of players who can fill in.' Kick-off is at 1.30pm.
