GRUFs face game setback

THE GRUFs' pre-season prepara- tions received another setback with Rockhampton outfit Brothers pull- ing out of today's rugby union trial match which was to be played at Me- teors Sportsground.

Brothers, who were unable to raise a team for the match, notified the GRUFs of of their withdrawal from the match on Thursday night.

The trial was to have been the GRUFs' third of the season.

Instead, they have played just one (a 27-0 loss to a Bundaberg representative side) with the postponed match against Kawana still to come on April 2.

GRUFs manager Steve Hunt said he was concerned the Kawana trial, which will be played just one week before the Rockhampton and District Rugby Union premiership start, could result in injured players miss- ing the first competition fixture.

However, he added trials were a necessary evil, with the earlier trial against Bundaberg providing coach Jonathon Dalton with a valuable chance to gauge several new players to the club.
