GRUFs? depth to be tested in semi-final

MINOR premiers Gladstone will have their depth tested in the Rockhampton and District Rugby Union Sub-districts major semi-final against Mount Morgan tomorrow.

The GRUFs will be without prop David Loane (absent) and flanker Brendan King (work commitments) for the 1pm clash at Rockhampton's Rugby Park but coach Jon Dalton is confident he has the troops to cover their loss.

'We've still got the side to win it,' he said yesterday. "We had a pretty good training run on Thursday night and got done what we needed to ... just getting things right in our general play.'

Dalton said the GRUFs would not make any dramatic changes to the style of play which took the side to the top of the Sub-districts premiership ladder.

'We'll just play our game as much and look to minimise our mistakes so we can reduce their (Mount Morgan's) opportunities to counter-attack.'

Dalton said the battle of the forwards would be integral to the end result and was confident his side would again dominate up front and maintain the edge the GRUFs have held over tomorrow's opponents this season.

The winner of the clash will progress directly to the September 10 grand final.

The loser will take on the winner of today's minor semi-final clash between Biloela and Capricorn Coast, also to be battled out at Rugby Park.
