TALENTED karter John Grother fought out a ding-dong battle with Cian Fothergill to win the Sportsman Light class at the Gladstone Kart Club C grade feature day on Sunday.

Grother, who raced in the Aussie racing car series last year, is one of the region's top karters and picked up a highly- impressive win.

Fothergill made up for that second place with a win in the hotly-contested senior national light category.

One of a clutch of rising young stars at the club, Fothergill edged out Sean Thomas and Cameron Rosenblatt to win the class.

BJ Dau is another young gun who is improving out of sight and he scored a classic unior national heavy division win from Brock Ten Bensel.

The two Justins, Tindal and Smith showed their talent in the rookies' class, finishing one-two yet again.

This time it was Tindal who picked up the victory, with Smith settling for the second spot.

And home-town star Benny Benedetto didn't miss out either, winning two classes.

Benedetto won the sportsman heavy from rival Ken Prichard and backed that up with a win in the leopard event.

I bet many are wondering how those renovations at home are going.

Other winners on the day were Robert Beak, Ian Wogandt senior, Trevor Herring, Michael James and Gold Coast visitor Mitchell Griffin.
