Gropers lap up Rocky swimming spoils

LEGENDARY masters' swimmers Don Jones and Ian Carrick were at their red-hot best setting new state records as the Gladstone Gropers dominated proceedings in Rockhampton last weekend.

Jones and Carrick headlined a great weekend for the Gropers, smashing the 200-metre state breaststroke records in their age groups.

The classy duo enjoyed the Rocky Crocs 25th anniversary meeting winning four gold medals apiece.

It was a great meeting for the Gropers with a number of the club's swimmers in sensational form.

Narelle Phillips, Ken White and Ken Onions certainly enjoyed their trip up the Bruce Highway with five gold medals each.

Phillips easily dominated the backstroke events winning all three golds on offer, while White showed his speed and ability with fine wins in the freestyle and breaststroke swims.

Meanwhile Onions, the jack of all trades, deserved his five golds after he was able to win races in the freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke events.

The meeting was a special one for the Rocky Crocs Swimming Club, celebrating their silver anniversary.
