'I'VE been drinking at the Grand since I was old enough to walk,' claimed Roy Johnson.
'And this has been my watering hole since beer was under two bob a glass,'' added Paddy McNamara.
Such was the atmosphere at Gladstone's stately old lady the Grand Hotel, as news circulated throughout the public bar that the old lady would have new owners next week.
'This is a good spot,'said Paddy McNamara,' and it can still be a good pub with a few changes.'
'This is where I first started drinking in my youth,' he said.
Roy Johnson believes the grand old lady needs new ideas and a tidy-up.
'In fact it needs a serious renovation,' he said.
'The first thing that needs to go is the TAB from the public bar.
'It interrupts our drinking!'
However both men agree the atmosphere is what makes the Grand so special.
'Everyone starts their nights here on Friday and Saturday night, because it is so central,' added Roy.
Duty manager Anita Fayle is excited at the change of ownership.
'I haven't seen the plans yet for the renovations or additions but I am sure the changes will be great,'' she said.
