Gourley joins Raiders

By CRAIG ROSScraigr@gladstoneobserver.dyndns.org

CENTRAL Queensland Capras representative Daniel Gourley has been rushed into the Gladstone Leagues Club Raiders open squad ahead of their clash with Central Highlands at Marley Brown Oval tomorrow.

With a number of players originally named in the Raiders squad unavailable, selectors were forced to look outside even the shadow players named last weekend, with Gourley's credentials making him an obvious choice.

Initially overlooked because he did not take part in Wallabys' first fixture of the season against Valleys last weekend, Gourley's experience and performances for Gladstone have earnt him a belated call-up.

With coach Aaron Farrar uncertain of utility Will Jarvis' availability yesterday afternoon, there is a chance Gourley will take to the field. Missing from the squad originally named were Matt Baker (representative touch duties), Brent Loudon and Andrew Cooke (work commitments), Adam Hamilton (injury) and Russell Groth (unavailable).

Farrar was otherwise pleased with his team's preparations following their lone training session together on Wednesday night. "It was an excellent training,'' Farrar said. "The side's looking really good.''

Gladstone and Central Highlands clash in three divisions tomorrow with the under-17s kicking off at 3pm, followed by the under-19s at 4.30pm and the open teams at 6pm.
