Golf clubs launch into new season

IT'S that time of the year again when the Gladstone and Miriam Vale Golf Clubs gear up for their first events of the 2005 season, happening this weekend.

Gladstone is again hosting the popular Capri Summer Mixed Open 4BBB Stableford event on Saturday and the club's secretary/manager Greg Hills is hoping for a great start to the new year.

'The event is always a great day and even though we are starting a week early we are hopeful for a good day this year,' Hills said.

Morning tee-off time is 6.30pm, with a shotgun start at 12.15pm for the afternoon players.

Meanwhile at Miriam Vale the season is starting on Sunday with a 4BBB Medley Select event.

Club publicity officer Kate Bell said the recent rain has the Miriam Vale course in magnificent condition and should be conducive to good golf.

'We are looking at a big year for the club and the course is in great condition at the moment,'' Bell said. Action starts at 1pm. Both clubs encourage all golfers to play in their events and are quite happy to accept nominations on the day.
