Gladstone has premiership win in sight

GLADSTONE can wrap up the Rockhampton and District Rugby Union Sub-districts premiership with victory over Blackwater at Rockhampton's Rugby Park today.

The GRUFs will look to showcase their improved defensive capabilities against a Blackwater side which troubled them in their last meeting but has yet to register a win in their previous two encounters this year.

Gladstone triumphed 21-13 in a tight tussle when the teams last met in Blackwater in May but were comfortable victors when an inspirational performance by No.8 Charles Tema led them to a 40-12 home win in April.

While Gladstone struggled at times with their defence in broken play in last weekend's victory over Cap Coast, they otherwise showed a steely resolution only previously hinted at this season and appear to be hitting top form for the finals.

GRUFs coach Jon Dalton has the backs and forwards working together well as a unit and there's no reason to think that trend won't continue today.

A victory in Rockhampton today would ensure the GRUFs' the minor premiership ahead of Mount Morgan and Cap Coast in a tight finish.
