GLADSTONE Gladiators swimming club trio Thomas Hayes, Xavier Player and Antoinette Hayes might have trouble at the airport metal detector after after winning medals at last weekend's Queensland Sprint Titles in Brisbane.
Player was the standout performer with a gold and two bronze medals while the Hayes combination resulted in a silver for Antoinette and a bronze for Thomas.
Xavier collected his gold in the open multi-disability 50 metre breaststroke event and was over the moon with his first state gold at open level.
'To win my first state gold at that level was fantastic. I was very pleased and even though I didn't swim my best it was very good to win,' Player said.
Talented 12-year-old Antoinette picked up her first state medal with a silver performance in the 12 years 50m backstroke division and could not hide her delight with the medal.
'I knew a personal best time would get me close to a medal and a silver medal was something I was really happy with,' Hayes said.
Older brother Thomas started the medal tally on day one of the competition when he got home for third in the 16 years 50m breaststroke final.
He had qualified fastest for the final after producing a quick time in the heats, but struggled for his best and had to be content with the bronze.
'I was hoping for a gold medal because I had qualified fastest and had lane four, but unfortunately I was a bit nervous,' Thomas said.
'Even so, to get a bronze was great.'
The trio led a strong Gladiators contingent at the state titles. They will all line up in this weekend's Gladstone Closed Championships.
