Girls line up for final

TANNUM Sands and Gladstone West will meet in the final of the Sportspower Girls Soccer Challenge after scoring impressive semi-final victories at BITS fields on Monday.

Both teams advanced to the final of the primary school competition with hard-fought 2-0 victories, Tannum Sands' coming at the expense of Benaraby/Boyne and West overcoming Calliope.

Tannum were pushed hard by Benaraby/Boyne with an Amber Grosskreutz goal in the first half the only thing separating the sides. The combined outfit came close to equalising but a second goal to Grosskreutz in the second half sealed the win.

An Isabel Wilmshurst penalty goal in the first half gave West the early advantage, the side withstanding a concerted Calliope challenge in the second half. A second goal to Wilmshurst put paid to a valiant Calliope effort.

In minor finals matches, Tori Van Vegchel scored two goals and Jacinta Lang another as Clinton defeated St John's 3-0 and Gladstone South beat Star of the Sea 4-0 with Jade Camilieri, Deanna Ianantuono, Emma Charman and Cassie Hills scoring.

Monday's matches:

4.10pm: Field 1 ? Clinton v Gladstone South (play-off for 5th place); field 2 ? Mir-iam Vale v St John's. 5pm: Field 1 ? Tannum Sands v Gladstone West (final); field 2 ? Benaraby/Boyne v Calliope (play-off for 3rd place).
