Fun to fire up at the festival

PLENTY of bang and big time entertainment is on the agenda for this year's Harbour Festival.

With the countdown for the festival of fun less than eight weeks away, event organisers are getting preparations in motion.

General manager of Gladstone Festivals and Events, Judy Whicker, said more excitement and fun was on the agenda for this year's festival.

'Instead of two fireworks displays, we are going to have three and the raft race is more popular every year,' Mrs Whicker said.

Also the entertainment on offer is second to none with some old favourites coming to sing.

'On the main stage we will be providing lots of free entertainment including a great Legend of Oz Show,' Mrs Whicker said.

This show will feature artists such as Doug Parkinson, Jon English, Ross Wilson, Max Merritt and Brian Cadd.

The popular street parade will happen with slight changes to venue and organisers.

'Rotary Midday have taken over from organising the street parades and hopefully they will be able to entice more floats this year,' Mrs Whicker said.

The Comalco Street Parade will commence at 4pm on April 9 and will start at the Gladstone Showgrounds and continue along Tank Street, down Goondoon Street and finish at the Gladstone Marina.
