Four nominees for top citizen award

GLADSTONE City Council (GCC) Australia Day nominees will be in the running for the awards.

GCC cultural projects officer Melissa Case said these awards were very prestigious and quite an honour to win.

The nominees for Citizen Of The Year Award are Noel Wootton, Stuart Keen, Leanne Steele and Keith Upton.

Community Event Of The Year is gearing up to be hotly contested with several popular community events up for the award.

The nominees are Jungle Fantasy, Leanne Steele Nurse Of The Year Fundraising, Ulysses Club Toy Run, Gladstone District Hockey Association and Relay for Life. The winners of these awards will be announced on Australia Day. Also present will be GCC Australia Day Ambassador, John P. Coutis. Mr Coutis was born with a severe disability that has renderd his legs useless. Refusing to allow his disability to control his life, Mr Coutis today is a motivational speaker who is in high demand.

Mr Coutis has spoken to corporate groups and communities, Olympic teams and other international sporting teams.
