Five nominate for top citizen award
FIVE Gladstone residents have been nominated as the city's top citizen, to be named today.
Alby Dunnett ALBY has benefited the areas of veteran affairs, the RSL, Army, the National Service-men's Association and occupational health and safety. Alby has also visited schools to talk about the significance of ANZAC Day and tales of yesteryear.
Helen Vale Helen is involved in various facets of life in the Star of the Sea Parish. She is a commentator and special minister and she regularly visits the sick in their homes or in hospital. Helen has also been heavily involved with the Chanel College Band. Neville Robertson Hughes Neville has devoted many years to Gladstone and the region's museums. He was a driving force behind the establishment of the Gladstone Maritime Museum and is the publicity officer for the society. He is also the senior volunteer of the Queensland Railways Heritage Group.
Rita Moller Rita has been a member of the Friends of Visitor Services at Tondoon Botanic gardens for two years, helping to plan school holiday activities and gardens events. She also volunteers for the Gladstone Branch of the Society for Growing Australian Plants Inc
Ian Hankinson VICE president of the Gladstone & District Darts Association, Ian uses his darts club to deliver recreation activities for people with a disability and thanks to Ian, young people from Roseberry Youth Services and Tannum Sands State High School are now learning numeracy.

National anthem by Wendy Lanzon and the Gladstone Municipal Band. Mayoral welcome and citizenship ceremony.
11.30am Bush band Scrub Turkey and bush dancing, bush tucker talk with Lyn Field and book signing with Jackie French. 12 noon Presentation of Australia Day awards: Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Senior Sportsperson of the Year and Sport Administrator of the Year.
12.15pm Jackie French presents 'Everything I know in Life I Learnt from Wombats'. 12.30pm Presentation of Australia Day awards: Junior Cultural Citizen of the Year, Senior Cultural Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year, and Citizen of the Year.
12.45pm Bush band Scrub Turkey, Bush tucker talk with Lyn Field, book signing with Jackie French. 1.15pm Jackie French presents children's book reading. 1.30pm Bush band Scrub Turkey and book signing with Jackie French. 2.30pm Close.
