Firefighter Cliff rescues veil
FIREFIGHTERS around the world are renowned for going to great heights to help out a friendly citizen.
But yesterday, Gladstone firefighter Cliff Edwards found himself 14 metres off the ground digging through a gum tree in a search and rescue mission for a bride's veil.
Mel and Danny Dilger tied the knot on Saturday but a freakish wind decided to whisk Mel's veil from her head and deposit it firmly at the top of the gum tree on Flinders Parade.
The newlyweds were forced to head off on their honeymoon minus the veil.
But along came Irene Dudley. After hearing the story from the mother of the bride, Irene went to work.
She finally approached the firies, who, in typical fashion, went straight into action to make sure Mel and her veil will soon be reunited.
