Field shooting club plan considered

GLADSTONE resident Derek Eryan is calling for expressions of interest from gun enthusiasts to establish a field shooting club.

Field shooting consists of competitors firing at clay targets which emulate the movement of animals, either by taking to the air in any direction or rolling along the ground.

Eryan is a member of Field and Game Australia, and participated in the sport in Tasmania before a recent shift to Gladstone.

He has corresponded with Field and Game Australia about forming an affiliated club in the Gladstone district, with the sport's governing body suggesting he needs about 10 expressions of interest.

If Eryan can raise those signatures, Field and Game Australia will advertise for members in the district. Eryan has already conducted preliminary talks with Gladstone branch officials of the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia in the hope that should the new club form, it could share the SSAA facilities at its Neill Creek Road range.

For more information, phone Derek Eryan on 4972 0634.
