Father weeps as daughter jailed
A GLADSTONE father wept in court yesterday, after his 32-year-old daughter was sentenced to two years in jail, having been found guilty of stealing sums of money from her former employer.
When sentencing Gladstone hairdresser, Sara Jane Ruddell, Judge Howell described her as "almost a pathological liar'' and said the crime had been committed in a "serious, persistent and calculated way''.
Ruddell was convicted of steal- ing a sum between $15,000 and $20,000 between July 17, 2001 and March 5, 2003 while she worked as a co-manager at a Gladstone hairdressing salon.
Judge Howell said there were elements of ruthlessness in Rud- dell's actions which would have caused pain and embarrassment to her fellow employees who were called as witnesses.
He said she had allowed and even encouraged suspicion to be cast on her fellow employees and had not shown the slightest sign of remorse for her actions. He said she had believed her scheme foolproof and if it was not for a master computer in Mackay her criminality would never have been able to be proved.
