England shoots for a triathlon record

DEFENDING champion Michael England has his sights on a record fifth win when he lines-up at the start line in tomorrow's Tannum Fun Triathlon.

England who currently shares the most wins in the prestigious event with Ron Acutt on four is hot favourite to take the title for the fifth time.

But he will have to go up against an impressive field who are contesting the 800m swim, 24km ride and 6km ride.

Due to the absence of defending champion Petro Kuiper due to world titles commitments, the women's event is certainly up for grabs.

Gladstone's Prue Oswin leads the local hopes, but if last year's runner-up Sonia Murphy from Rockhampton turns up she should go close.

In the short course event, state secondary champion Matthew Strike is the favourite and in the process win the junior division as well.

The Iron Kids event for those under 12 years of age is sure to be popular again in what is always a fun day of participation.

Nominations are being taken on the day at 6am, with racing at 8am.
