Drivers rally for flying doctor service

SEVENTEEN Gladstone vehicles will set off today on a 6000km tour to Lake Eyre in the Rotary Club of Gladstone-Port Curtis Rock n' Round rally car adventure.

Organiser Graeme Watts said this was the sixth such event staged by the club for members of the Rotary clubs in Gladstone. 'The events are held to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service,' he said.

'During our previous trips we collected more than $10,000 for the RFDS.'

Mr Watts said most of the cars in the trip were rally cars but there were a number of 4WDs as well.

'The tours are really social events ? we decided to conduct them because other rallies, such as the Endeavour Rally, were too gruelling.'

Funds are raised through the purchase of $100 worth of raffle tickets per vehicle which is also the entry fee for the tour.

The tickets will be sold before departure, on the way to Lake Eyre and back. The vehicles leave today at 6.30am in front of Choice Service Station at Mt Larcom.
