Dirtriders do battle in final meet

CLUB championships will be decided when Gladstone District Dirtriders host its final meet of the year at Benaraby tomorrow.

About 100 motocross riders from throughout the region are expected to contest the event which is also the final Central Queensland club meet for 2005.

Although championships have already been decided in some divisions, such has been the dominance by the leading riders, others will be decided tomorrow with valuable points up for grabs.

Brett Vock has already wrapped up the senior lites class while Jacob Wright has also stamped his class on the 9-11 years 85cc competition.

Stephen Nielson has a handy lead in the senior open class and will be difficult to beat for the title while Ross Spencer also has one hand already wrapped around the masters trophy.

A number of Gladstone riders will come into tomorrow's event in top form after competing strongly at the recent CQ No.1 Plate championships in Clermont.

Jake Gook was a standout performer, taking out the top spots in both the 10-12 years 65cc and 911 years 85cc classes.

Gook's efforts also ensured he took out the highest overall junior point scorer honours.

Joining him on the winner's list was Vock who dominated the senior lites class while Jacob Sowten was second in junior lites competition.
