Destiny awaits

DESTINY awaits the Gladstone GRUFs rugby union boys who meet Biloela in the Rockhampton and District Rugby Union Subdistricts Grand Final at Rugby Park today.

Today is an historic day for the GRUFs who are contesting their first ever decider.

The atmosphere around the club has been electric, with coach Jon Dalton saying his players are primed for the occasion.

'All the players are excited at the prospect of playing what is our first ever grand final as a club,' Dalton said.

'The week has been a great one for us and the feeling at the club is fantastic.

'We have had a good season and feel ready to go.'

Dalton believes his team will respond to the big occasion and expects his team to stick to the gameplan which has got them to the decider.

'Our focus at training has been to stick to the basics which have got us to the grand final.

'We don't want to get carried away because of what is on the line, it is important we play the same game as normal,' he said.

Dalton has great respect for the in-form Biloela who have hit form defeating Cap Coast and Mount Morgan in back to back cut-throat matches.

'Biloela are a well-drilled team who have knocked off two top teams in recent games, they are going to be tough to beat,' he said.

One drawback for Dalton is the absence of key player Damien Redshaw who misses the decider through suspension.

'Damien is a massive loss for us, it is a tragedy that he is out, but I know that in Chris Peters we have a top replacement.

'Our success has been built on a solid platform where all the boys contribute and to win we will need that again in this match,' he said.

Kick-off is at 1pm.

There is also a supporters' bus going up to Rockhampton which leaves at 10.30am, phone Steve on 0419 717 286 to book your spot.
