Crime Stoppers needs support

GLADSTONE district police are calling on locals to assist them in tracking down known criminals, by using the Crime Stoppers phone number.

District Inspector Rowan Bond said Gladstone police were also encouraging local people to take part in a Crime Stoppers Area Committee to raise awareness of the importance of providing information to police.

'Crime Stoppers is a very good conduit for people to pass on information with guaranteed anonymity and the opportunity to receive a reward ? while the level of information Gladstone is receiving from Crime Stoppers is reasonable, there is still a lot more that could be done,' Insp Bond said.

Callers are given a code number, which they could use to claim the reward if the information they provided led to a person being charged with an offence.

A Crime Stoppers Area Committee meeting will be staged at the Gladstone Police Citizens Youth Club in Yarroon Street at 5.30pm tomorrow.
