CQ holds on in Junior Jug victory

IT came right down to the wire, but Central Queensland held on for the win on the final day of the Junior Jug girls golf matchplay at the Calliope Country Club yesterday.

After drawing the bye on the last day, CQ had to watch from the club house as Wide Bay were pitted against the Gold Coast.

Wide Bay was the only team who could stop CQ from winning with the possibility of tying the competition if they won both of yesterday's matches.

However after Gold Coast got the better of Wide Bay in both encounters, the title was handed to CQ.

CQ golf president Val Watson praised the carnival as one of the most successful staged.

'The comments we have got from everyone involved are excellent and the greenkeeper got a great deal of praise as well for the course,' she said.

Elleesha Michie from the Gold Coast also showed that her golfing prowess far outweighed her tender age, when she scored an eagle on the 303 metre 12th hole.

Results: Gold Coast 2 squared up with Wide Bay 2, North Queensland 4 d Downs/South West 0, Brisbane and district 4 d Far North Queensland 0.
