AFFECTION and love. They are something the orphans in Russia don't get to feel everyday.
Gladstone couple Jim and Bernice Billing will head to Russia at the end of June to shine a little bit of light on orphans and show them the care they deserve.
Jim said the trip was not about them, but rather the kids.
'Each child has a different story to tell, whether it was living on the streets or parents leaving them to fend for themselves because they cannot afford them,'' he said.
'The children are aged between six and 16 and our mission is to go over there and talk to them about a variety of topics, in hope we have reached out to at least one of them.'
Jim, a boilermaker, had his first trip to Russia last year and this year his wife Bernice will join him on the venture.
Jim said it was an opportunity for both of them to view what the children go through and help them in some way.
'These children have never known what it is to receive a hug or have a little bit of attention,'' he said.
'From my experience last year, (it) certainly has inspired me to go again this year, and have my wife over there with me to realise the impact we have on these children in this country.
'I can just see my wife Bernice having great difficulty leaving them because we have such a huge impact on them.
'No words can express the feeling given from this trip.
'To see the happiness and light in the children's eyes is unexplainable and certainly is an amazing feeling.'
