Conspiracy may give punters shout

TODAY may be the day to head to the Grand Hotel about lunchtime with exciting galloper Conspiracy looking cherry-ripe for the QRSE Class Six Plate in Rockhampton.
Conspiracy's owners, who include a number of Gladstone identities, have shouted the main bar at the Grand after every win to date and today looks a good day to head up to get a free beer.
Having been given top weight of 58.5 kilograms, trainer Lyle Rowe has engaged rising young apprentice Lachlan Fyfe who is claiming two kilograms to ride Conspiracy.
Another positive for the son of Octagonal is the distance with 1400 metres expected to suit him more than his previous two starts.
And being third up from a spell can also be helpful with Rowe having got the horse up to full fitness in the $12,000 race.
Even so, Conspiracy will not have it all his own way with Doomben winner Birrong, in-form Pointy Stick and seasoned veteran General Eagle expected to figure prominently.
Do not discount fellow local hope Fob Pocket which is making a huge step up in grade after winning at Class 2 level on March 10.
Fob Pocket comes into the race with just 54 kilograms and has drawn next to Conspiracy in barrier eight.
He will probably be one of the outsiders, but could be worth a lash at value.
Local trainer Denis Schultz has his fingers crossed that his hope Lady Long Legs runs in the QRSE Open Handicap.
Lady Long Legs is the first emergency and if a horse gets scratched will run in the $17,000 race.
