Conspiracy gets number one barrier for Rocky Cup

CLASSY four-year-old Conspiracy has drawn the ideal barrier one for tomorrow's XXXX Rockhampton Gold Cup Handicap at Callaghan Park.
The son of Octagonal needed a bit of luck on his side and got it at the barrier draw when he received the one alley. Trainer Lyle Rowe has engaged former Gladstone jockey Lucy Timson to take the ride.
Timson is an astute choice to ride the horse with regular jockey Mark Barnham unable to ride at the 53 kilogram weight set for Conspiracy.
The $85,000 race has drawn a strong 16 horse field, with the very impressive Toowoomba galloper Celtic Trial given top-weight of 61 kilograms.
Other prominent runners for the race include Bevan Laming's Star of St. Covet, Latin Lover and On A High. The race runs at 3.57pm.It is set to be a magnificent day of racing in the beef capital, with all seven races on the card drawing top fields. Gladstone trainer Denis Schultz will saddle up two runners on the day.
His in-form runner Sydney Jack looks to be the best hope in the Class 1 handicap (race 1).
Sydney Jack is coming off a strong win at Emerald last start and could be a chance to make it two on the trot here.
With rising apprentice Chris McIver claiming three kilograms, Sydney Jack is well-weighted with just 52 kilograms and is well drawn from barrier four.
Locally-owned Colonial Bill is in the same race and will need to improve big time on his seventh last start.
Meanwhile, Schultz's other hope Let's Reconsider also comes into the calculations with just 51 kilograms in the Class 5 handicap (race 7).
Apart from Conspiracy, Timson has two other rides during the cup day with top-weight's Cruising Johnnie (race 3) and Spookys Beach (race 7).
