Conspiracy fresh and ready to go

LOCAL favourite Conspiracy is sure to be fresh and ready to fire when he contests today's XXXX Open handicap at Callaghan Park.

The son of Octagonal has not hit the track since his ninth in Rockhampton on June 18 and after a month to freshen up has to be a chance over the 1400 metres.

Mark Barnham has formed a great affinity with Conspiracy in recent times and again takes the ride today.

Given 54kg by the handicapper, Conspiracy certainly has no excuses with the weight, but barrier 14 could certainly be a drawback.

Even so, the four-year-old is a front-runner and if he can get a soft lead early is expected to be right in the mix down the straight.

His biggest rivals are the inform Tycoon Ted who is lumping 60.5 kilograms, Tim Cook's Victory Siren and veteran Damascus Calling.

The $17,000 race is run at 4.35pm. Another horse with local connections, Colonial Bill is expected to be a big hope in the second race of the day, the Diplock Collision Repair Centre Class 2 handicap.

The consistent four-year-old finished third in Rockhampton last Friday and even though he steps up in class has a genuine shot of winning this race.

The race runs at 12.59pm. Also keep an eye on market moves for a third starter with local connections, Pharos Prince.
