City school leavers join party

IT'S all about the parties, the social outings and the shopping for five year 12 school leavers who will celebrate schoolies on the Gold Coast next week.

The girls have been preparing since September last year and are excited about getting down there and having a good time. Lauren Collins will be among thousands of year 12 students celebrating during the party filled week.

'We have been booked since September last year,' she said.

'Although we have had a lot of people pull out, we are still excited.''

She said their accommodation was in the middle of it all, near Cavill Avenue, across from the beach.

Lauren said the school had been fantastic in preparing students for Schoolies Week.

'The videos looked at things like sexual education, drink spiking and what to do in various situations they have heard about from previous years schoolies.'

The school provided the students with beer goggles to warn them of the effects alcohol could have on their behaviour.

'We had to wear beer goggles and pretend to drive through markers, throw balls to warn us of the effect alcohol has on our reaction to various situations,' Lauren said.

She said she was excited about having fun at the underage rages and the shopping.

'They have sales every hour at various stores around the schoolies area,' she said.

Lauren and her friends leave on the train at 8.50am this morning.
