City pair to line up for the Cougars

GLADSTONE pair Lee Veenhoven and goalkeeper Roger Bailey will line up for the Capricorn Cougars in their Football Queensland State Cup clash against Wide Bay at Rockhampton's Ryan Park tonight.

Bailey, who turns 39 next week, said it was good he was still challenging himself.

'Most of my opponents are 18 years younger than me, but this is something I've wanted to do for years,' Bailey said.

'I have grey hair ? don't let that fool you.'

Bailey was not even sure if he wanted to play soccer season, but by mid-season was ready to go.

After giving up soccer as an 18-year-old Bailey walked away from the sport for more than 10 years before returning as a 30-year-old.

'I had a mid-life crisis,' he said.

Bailey knows this weekend will test him, but he is ready.

The Cougars were forced into making changes this week with Nick Barker and Lindsay Dean both unavailable while Bailey comes in for Rockhampton goalie Ben Blacke, who was named on the bench.

Veenhoven will start at wide left with Yeppoon's Chris Griffin moving to right midfield and Rockhampton's Kenny Robertson joins the experienced Michael Steere up front.

Despite the changes Cougars coach Justin Kilshaw remains encouraged by his team's approach to this second round contest and has confidence in his new recruits from Gladstone.
