Cinema next focus for developers

THE roof-top level seven-cinema complex and associated carpark is certain to be the next stage of the Mulhern Developments project along the Dawson Highway.

Substantial work on the cinema development has already been carried out.

However, with the shopping centre now out of the way, work on the rest of the project is likely to accelerate.

The major access to the cinema carpark is a ramp at the front of the shopping centre complex. Other accesses are via stairways from the ground level shopping areas.

There have been a number of delays in the construction of the much awaited cinema complex.

Originally the opening was expected to be the Christmas of 2004, then Easter this year.

Mulhern Developments spokesman Ken Stockley yesterday said it was now planned for the second quarter of next year.

The cinemas will be operated by Gladstone Cinemas now operating in Hixon Street, South Gladstone.

A further stage of the entire complex is the Dicey Reilly's Irish Pub.

'It's more likely that the pub will follow after the cinemas,' Mr Stockley said.

Mulhern Investments now owns the existing cinema complex in Hixon Street.

The group is still deciding what to do with that property.
