CEO used card for escort services

MIRIAM Vale Shire Council CEO Greg Powell (pictured right) was charged with three counts of fraud in a Western Australian magis- trates court in 2003.

The three counts were for using a council credit card to pay for escort services while he was the chief executive offi- cer of the Broome Shire.

Mr Powell admitted to using the credit card on three occa- sions between February 2001 and January 2002 at a number of escort agencies in Perth.

The charges were initially declared by Mr Powell as work related expenses and on one oc- casion as car hire, until discov- ered by a shire clerk in March 2002.

Mr Powell was fined $2000 for each charge.

The magistrate stated the court considered the charges to be very serious as Mr Powell had been in a position of trust.
