Calliope trio share medals in dressage

CALLIOPE Hack and Pony Club trio Leisa Genrich, Kellie Job and Chloe Hughes proved their class against competitors from throughout Queensland in Rockhampton recently.

The three were among the medal winners at the Pony Club Association of Queensland State Dressage, Combined Training and Horse Trials Championships.

Genrich, riding Sea Marauder, was particularly impressive in finishing second in both the combined training (dressage and show jumping) and horse trials categories.

In a gold medal position after the dressage competition, Genrich slipped back to second spot after knocking a rail in show jumping.

Horse trials competition features three phases ? dressage, cross country and show jumping ? and Genrich was in third spot after the dressage before storming home in the other two disciplines to finish second overall.

Job, riding Livinty, finished second overall in her division's combined training, including a clear round of show jumping.

The result was an excellent one considering rider and horse have only spent four months developing their combination. Genrich and Job also combined to represent Zone 9 in the combined training team event to finish third.

Also in good form was Hughes and her mount Temples who overcame a disappointing first dressage test before shifting into gear to place first and second in the remaining two tests.

She followed up her sixth placing overall in combined training with a good dressage test and clear cross country and show jumping results to place third overall in the horse trials.

Also in good form was Kevin Upton who was fifth overall in combined training on Daisy's Time and fifth on Wot A Worry in the horse trials while Katie Pope, 10, did well at her first state dressage to snare second and third placings for fifth overall.

Other Calliope riders representing the club and zone were Sarah Upton, Cathy-Rose Curran, Courtney Hallinan and Regan O'Grady.
