Bus routes extended to Tannum

GLADSTONE residents are being encouraged to leave their car at home and take the bus to work and the shops with new, improved bus routes from August 8.

According to Transport Minister Paul Lucas, Gladstone residents will have an easier access to Buslink in town.

The major improvements on the bus service will help provide a better service.

Mr Lucas said during the past five years the Beattie Government had substantially increased the amount of funding for public transport in Gladstone.

"The total distance travelled by the Gladstone bus fleet will increase by 15,000km in a year, the bus fleet will have travelled 200,000km,'' he said.

"This is a massive increase and the latest changes to the routes will provide more effective and streamlined spread of service across the city.

He said one of the new services would extend Route 9 through to Millennium Esplandade on the Tannum Sands seaside.

"The services will provide a city to beach service for residents and tourists every day including school holidays,'' he said.

Mr Lucas said the improvements meant better services for the people of Gladstone.

"The Beattie Government is committed to making public transport more accessible and getting more people out of their cars on to public transport,'' he said.
