Boyne Tannum locals to join region?s blood drive

TWO of Boyne Tannum's biggest business names are calling on locals to get behind the Gladstone Blood Bank appeal.

Darryl Branthwaite and Andre Taute will roll up their sleeves next Wednesday when the blood bank visits Boyne Tannum, and they want others to follow suit.

"We want to encourage other businesses to support the cause and get their staff involved,'' Mr Branthwaite said.

"It's not enough to say what a good cause it is and tell the staff, they have to organise a drive and get behind it.''

The two local businessmen are well known for the community support, but taking the needle next week will be something new for Mr Branthwaite.

"I've never given blood, it's always one of those 'gonna do' things that never happens, but now is people's chance,'' Mr Branthwaite said.

Mr Taute on the other hand has given in the past but admits it's been a long time between drinks for him.

The blood drive is part of Target 500, a Gladstone-wide blood drive aimed at getting 500 blood donations before the end of the year.

The Boyne Tannum blood drive will be at the community centre on Wednesday from 2pm to 8pm and Thursday from 8am to 11am.

Bookings are essential and can be made by phoning the Tara Place Medical Centre on 4973 7279.
