Boxing fans in for April treat

IT APPEARS the Indians may no longer be coming but Gladstone boxing fans are still in for a treat in April.

The Gladstone Amateur Boxing Club will host a full program of fights on April 23 with all leading senior fighters Ben McEachran, Daniel Beahan, Doug May, Steve Mylne and Emma Carruthers already guaranteed bouts on the night.

Beahan and May perhaps face the toughest challenges on the night with Beahan taking on Australian heavyweight titleholder Steve Rudic of the ACT.

May is set to come up against last year's national under-19 81kg champion Dennis Arthur, also of the ACT.

With the majority of Gladstone's fighters backing up from involvement in this weekend's state titles and possibly the nations from April 1-3, the home town fighters should be near the peak of their form for the popular event.

GABC's Mick Daly said he hoped fight fans would stay in Gladstone on the Anzac Day long weekend to support the event.

He said he would announce more confirmed starters and details about the night as it drew nearer.
