BITS fired up for Gabba showcase

SATURDAY will be one of the greatest days of the BITS Saints AFL Football Club when its players step onto the Gabba to play North Mackay.

The Saints have been rewarded for their decade-long powerhouse efforts in the AFL Capricornia league with the curtain-raiser to the Richmond vs Brisbane Lions AFL clash.

Coach Rod Spice has picked a strong side with a mix of experience and youth.

Spice, who has been at the club for more than 10 years knows how rare the chance to play at the Gabba is and cannot wait to be part of it.

'Everyone is looking forward to it, this match is just not for the players, but for the families and supporters around the club,' Spice said.

For captain Darren Boase, who has come through the junior ranks at the Saints to become one of league's most respected players, the Gabba trip is a great source of pride.

'I am pretty excited to be going, I have played there before when I was with Southport and I can't wait to go down there again,' Boase said.

There is no doubt the Saints want to win, according to Spice, with a trophy going to the match winner.

'We want to win the game, I know a little bit about North Mackay and I am confident we can get a win against them,'' Spice said.

'It would be nice to bring the trophy home.'
