Big crowd boosts local turf club

THE FUTURE continues to look bright for the Gladstone Turf Club after a sensational crowd attended last Saturday's race meeting at Ferguson Park.

A crowd of close to 1000 packed in for the day, primarily due to the partnership between the turf club and the Birralee Kindergarten group.

This kind of crowd support for the turf club is great news for the future and club president Mike Ironmonger was 'rapt' with the turnout.

'It was a great day and the crowd on Saturday rivalled our usual Melbourne Cup race day,' Ironmonger said

'The day is becoming one of the biggest on our calendar which is fantastic.

'We certainly appreciate the support of the Birralee Group who really know how to put on a great day.'

Ironmonger is hoping next month's Gladstone Newmarket race day on July 23 will prove as popular as last Saturday's meeting.

'We hope the Newmarket can bring another strong crowd to the races, it is usually a great day and we hope everyone who came on the weekend want to come back,' he said.

AT today's TAB race meeting in Rockhampton, locally-owned pair Colonial Bill and Classito will be at best place chances.

It will also be a big day for Lucy Timson who after riding a Ferguson Park winner (Pack of Gold) last Saturday has eight rides today.

Congratulations to another former Gladstone hoop Brad Pengelly who kicked off his stint in Brisbane with a big win on Natural Women at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
