Australians get into the clean-up spirit

A HOST of individuals and organisations got in the spirit of Clean Up Australia Day yesterday.

Local areas to receive their annual makeover were Auckland Creek, Curtis Island, Heron Island, Boyne River, Auckland Point and an array of other areas throughout the city.

Trinity College, Chanel College and Toolooa State High School registered as clean-up teams, while many busily cleaned the streets of the Boyne Tannum area as well.

Across the country more than 670,000 volunteers removed more than 8450 tonnes of rubbish from our beaches, parks, streets, bushland and waterways as part of the nations largest community based environmental event. Families, friends, neighbours, businesses and community groups spent the equivalent of 62,163 days, at more than 7000 sites, removing rubbish.
