Armed man takes to bushland

CHRISTMAS turned ugly for one Calliope family when a man took to the streets armed with a gun.

The Morris Avenue man threatened to kill himself about midnight Christmas night after a domestic incident.

Police were unable to establish where the man was during the storm late on Christmas night, when he disappeared into parkland near his home.

District Inspector Rowan Bond said the man then returned to the house before taking off in a car.

The man allegedly abandoned the car at the start of Monto Road and disappeared into bushland.

The dog squad couldn't find the man and the area was cordoned off and the public warned.

The man was found on Monday and charged with going armed so as to cause fear and dangerous driving.

He was released on bail and will appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court on January 12.
