Anzac Day rugby union brawler escapes jail time

ONE of the players involved in a brawl during a rugby union game in Rockhampton on ANZAC Day has escaped spending time in jail.

William Tiaaleaiga was sentenced to six months imprisonment, wholly suspended, in Rockhampton Magistrate's Court today.

The 19-year-old pleaded guilty to one charge of assault occasioning bodily harm following the brawl where he punched a Brothers player in the face multiple times.

The brawl occurred on the field, moments after the game concluded.

Tiaaleaiga was also ordered to pay $500 compensation for pain and suffering.
