Answers all in the mind
LUCAS Lindblom is only 20, but he has already discovered how to use the human mind to improve his life.
And now he's helping others do the same by opening a clinic on the Sunshine Coast.
The young man became interested in the unconscious mind and the way people experience reality after going through a dark patch two years ago.
"I know what it's like to walk around with the weight of depression," he said.
"I used drugs and drank a lot of alcohol to make me feel good."
His parents flew Lucas back to his birthplace, Sweden, where he experienced natural cognitive therapies and became interested in the way the human mind works.
"It completely inspired me to change my life," he said.
"From there, I have never stopped reading and researching."
Lucas believes everyone has the ability to improve their lives by exploring the unconscious mind.
Over a few years, he became qualified as a Master Clinical Hypnotherapist and Master Neuro-Linguistic Programmer.
He explains how they are both very useful for creating changes within the mind for positive benefits.
"Neuro Linguistic Programming is basically the sciences of how we process information within the mind," he said.
"Anything from depression, phobias or anxiety is a learned behaviour and therefore we can also learn how to successfully do happiness, joy and love.
"People are conditioned by the information they receive into their minds.
"We need to rediscover how to ask questions and not just accept everything that we are told.
"Ninety per cent of the Western population doesn't live the life they truly want to live but the life that others want them to."
At age 10, Lucas sailed from Sweden to settle in Australia with his family, visiting 40 countries on the way.
"I met all kinds of different people with different backgrounds," he said.
"I could see that human beings are very loving and caring within their nature and it is only external factors that can lead them astray."
Having struggled with substance abuse and depression in his teens, Lucas believes his young age allows him to relate to troubled youth better than older adults.
"It's all about using the imagination and getting back to the basics of learning," he said.
"Imagination is where we create our realities and if we take conscious control of this ability, we can begin to reach through our limitations and create the life we want.
"I have found, through my own experience as well as assisting others, that it can really help them get on the right track."
Lucas runs group hypnosis sessions on Thursday nights at the Coastal Wellbeing Centre, Maroochydore, and is holding a presentation at the Diddillibah Community Hall on Saturday.
