Alleged sex shop drug trafficker’s assets seized
THE State Government is seeking to freeze more property from a Mackay man who is accused of being caught up in a sex shop drug operation.
Melinda Anne Slingsby, who is the owner of Wood St business, Diva's Den, and Michael John Tyson have been accused of trafficking drugs and the State Government is seeking an order from the supreme court to confiscate profits they allegedly made under the proceeds of crime.
An order was made last year to freeze Ms Slingsby's bank accounts and assets, including two properties, and Mr Tyson's assets, including three properties.
A hearing was listed for Friday (Apr 15) to vary the criminal confiscation order.
The court heard the Director of Public Prosecutions, representing the State Government, was seeking to restrain more property from Mr Tyson.
But Mr Tyson's lawyers asked the DPP for the matter to be adjourned so they could obtain instructions from their client, who is behind bars.
Ms Slingsby's lawyers did not oppose or agree to the adjournment because they did not have time to get instructions, the court heard.
The case was adjourned to May 13. - ARM NEWSDESK
