Man allegedly armed with a knife goes on rampage

A MAN accused of going on a bizarre rampage armed with a knife early on Thursday has been refused bail.

Liam Joseph Flegler was arrested after he allegedly tried to rob several men in Pialba within the space of 20 minutes.

Documents before the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court allege Flegler was in the passenger seat of a car when the driver stopped to avoid hitting a pedestrian who was running across Winchelsea St.

Flegler allegedly got out of the car and punched the side of the vehicle before walking to the driver's side and attempting to remove the keys from the ignition.

When the driver got out to stop him, Flegler allegedly punched him in the cheek before removing a knife from his pants and flicking the blade.

Fearing he was about to be stabbed and have his car stolen, the driver allegedly ran down Winchelsea St with Flegler chasing after him.

Flegler then allegedly returned to the car and, with the help of another male, picked up items from the car and threw them on the road before running away.

When the driver returned to the car, his wallet and cards had allegedly been stolen.

It is further alleged that about 1.30pm, two men were riding their pushbikes along Boat Harbour Dr when Flegler allegedly recognised them and jumped out of a taxi he was travelling in and ran across the road to confront them.

Flegler allegedly accused the pair of stealing from him and punched one to the ground.

He then allegedly grabbed one of the males' mobile phones before getting back into the taxi.

Police later arrested Flegler at his home.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in court at a later date.
